Maybe the remaining "American Idol" finalists should start a band? The final four singers earned more praise for their moody matchups than their solos during Tuesday's edition of movie-themed performances on the Fox singing competition.
Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze ascended with "Falling Slowly" from the film "Once," while Michael Lynche and Casey James dazzled with "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" from "Don Juan DeMarco."
"They were better than all of the solo performances," gushed Kara DioGuardi.
The picky judge declared that both duets, which featured the finalists accompanying themselves on guitars, were incredible, but she asserted the union between Bowersox and DeWyze on the Oscar-winning song was one of her favorite moments from the ninth season. She informed them the teamwork "brought out the best in both of you."
Simon Cowell agreed.
"I don't know if I would call that a good song," teased Cowell. "I would call it a fantastic song."
Bowersox, a 24-year-old musician from Toledo, Ohio, was the biggest standout with her solo effort, riffing on Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright" from "Caddyshack."
DeWyze wasn't as lucky. The 24-year-old paint sales clerk from Mount Prospect, Ill., wilted with Seal's "Kiss From A Rose" from "Batman Forever." Cowell said it verged on karaoke.
"I felt good about it," replied DeWyze.
The judges also denounced the solo song choices from James, a 27-year-old musician of Fort Worth, Texas, and Lynche, a 26-year-old personal trainer of Queens, N.Y.
James wasn't at the head of the class with Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson" from "The Graduate." Lynche failed to make a splash with Michael Jackson's "Will You Be There" from "Free Willy."
"What you did tonight," DioGuardi told Lynche, "you could do in your sleep."

tiger woods and wyclef jean raise charity for haiti victims
TIGER WOODS - is donating $3M in medical care and supplies to help those affected by the earthquake in Haiti, and he may give even more to a similar charity run by Wyclef Jean. In a related story, I got a new cashmere blanket and slept like a little angel last night. Actually I guess those two stories arent that related. (fox sports)
WYCLEF JEAN - Remember that story about Tiger Woods donating money to Wyclefs Jeans charity to help those affected by the earthquake in Haiti? Well it could really enrich a lot of lives, although mostly Wyclefs, because apparently he keeps most of the money for himself. (the smoking gun)
jessy's boobs
There are no words to explain Jessica Simpson's boobs last night. Is it possible that they got even bigger? And how do they fit in that tight top? So many questions....

Nollywood top actresses, broken marriage!
Marriage as an institution ordained by the Almighty Himself is tempted to ridicule. Every now and then, the air is polluted, and the filthy news point to the failed marriage involving one Nollywood top actress or the other.
Worrisome is the rate at which these star actresses are divorcing their husbands. While many factors has been identified as being responsible for this ugly development, the fact remains that more and more notable nollywood actresses are moving from the altar to divorce courts at a speed that would shame lightening. To some keen observers, this ugly development is no less an indictment on the part of the credibility and ratings of nollywood as the third largest film industry across the world. A survey conducted recently by an independent observer indicated that excessive influence cum intoxication that comes with fame is not far from being responsible for the incessant break-up of marriages of these famous actresses.
Indeed, these past years had it all. Some of the divorce cases are touching, others devastating, while many elicited anger, as a few even tickled the industry observers. The splits, the fits and the emotional pits that becomes the aftermath of the marriage of these top rated actresses. From Eucharia Anunobi to Chiege Alisigwe, Fathia Balogun, Shan George, Bukky Wright, Regina Askia, Obot Etuk, Stephanie Okereke, Ngozi
Nwosu, Ann Njemanze, Ibinabo Fiberesima, Sandra Achums and Alex Lopex, the list is endless.
However, to keep the record straight, HVP this week, takes a crucial look at the lifestyle and circumstances that surrounded the crumbling of the union of this respected actresses. It also as a matter of tradition take swipe at what is supposed to be the challenges facing these affected celebrities. While the list appear endless, attempt is made here to take on eleven actresses whose cases appear somewhat exceptional.
Eucharia Anunobi
She came into the movie industry when she starred in Okechukwu Ogunjiofor’s produced “Nneka the Pretty Serpent(I&II)” as a goddess and later had her break after starring also in “Glamour Girls(I&II).
Eucharia’s forte is acting bitchy roles in movies. And the question many have continued to ask is, whether she took the act to her matrimonial home.
Was she bitchy to her husband? In an interview, she granted to Showtime last year, Eucharia admitted that rather than being bitchy to ex-husband, Mr. Charles Ekwu, she married the man out of uncontrolled infatuation, resulting in her inability to read the handwriting on the wall.
Anunobi probably believed that she had found Mr. Right when she hooked up and married her ex-husband. Like a few of her colleagues, Anunobi married on the job. But unlike many of them, she was naive to have studied the man she was confessing love to, before saying “I do” to him. Hence, she did not only dash her dream of staying married, but also, to raise a Christian family. Reports had it that Anunobi was a victim of wife-battering.
Ever before her ex-husband dumped his matrimonial home in 2007, and in the process, also abandoned his child, stories of wife-battering, which Anunobi was accused of denying was inevitable. Unconfirmed reports claim that Mr. Ekwu chickened out of the union, following his unable to fulfil his financial obligations to the union. But Anunobi herself said, she walked out of the marriage because of the health condition of her ex-husband, who according to her, was an AS person. However, she recently boasted of looking forward to remarrying again. After two years her marriage crumbled, many are still wondering what have become of this dreadful Nollywood actress.
From all indication, Anunobi has shown that she got nothing to regret nor loose in the cause of her crumbled life.

American Idol returns
The American Idol Season 9 begins. America and the rest of the world are watching closely. PHILIP LIM climbs onboard for another wild ride.
IT is said, by no less than Simon Cowell himself, that Season 10 of American Idol will probably be his last appearance. Everyone knows that if Simon keeps his word, the most talked-about Idol competition in the world will probably sink into oblivion.
In other words, it won’t be the same if the chief judge whom everybody loves and hates decides to call it a day. It doesn’t matter if the reality show continues into Season 11, the tour de force a la American Idol will be missing.
But that’s still a long way to go. The first episode of American Idol Season 9 begins tomorrow here on Astro’s Star World at 6pm. For the next couple of weeks we are going to be saddled with the good, the bad, the great, the outrageous and the slightly weird. But that’s what makes great entertainment.

COVER STORY: Farewell song bags top award
SRI GHAZALI RADIN SRI GHAZALI attends the new-format Anugerah Juara Lagu and finds its 24th outing a pleasant surprise. THE best Anugerah Juara Lagu by far? The answer is a definite “yes”, going by AJL regulars and music critics.
The thousands of screaming fans at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil on Sunday night saw solid performances from some the country’s youngest artistes.
As predicted by NST, the evening belonged to Aizat. He captured hearts with Pergi, a song composed by Pete Teo, and translated by Amran Omar.
Accompanied by a classical Indian singer and an erhu player, the boy wonder did no wrong in a farewell serenade to famed director, Yasmin Ahmad, who passed away last year. Aizat’s song also reveres other Malaysian legends including political figures Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Tan Cheng Lock Tan Sri P. Ramlee and Datuk Sudirman Arshad.
The 21-year-old from Johor continued to work his magic with an adorable performance of his self-composed Kau Aku. The singer relived his childhood days and even had a mini version of himself strumming the guitar on the stage surrounded by schoolchildren.
Faizal Tahir will always be Faizal Tahir, even with crutches. Bercinta was the singer’s third entry in AJL. The 31-year-old did not let his futsal injury hamper his performance. He brought drama, as usual, by “stumbling off” the stage at the end of his show. Sadly, his vocals were not as powerful. Still, kudos to the chap for going against doctor’s orders and giving us solid entertainment

Beyoncé and the $2m gig for Colonel Gaddafi's son
We begin with Lost in Showbiz's favourite how-much-money-is-enough? story since gazillionaire JK Rowling accepted another wedge to greenlight a hideously infra dig Harry Potter theme park in Florida. To wit, the first diplomatic incident of 2010 involving Beyoncé.
We lay our scene on New Year's Eve, in the Caribbean paradise of St Barts, which seems to have been an island of two parties. At one location, Roman Abramovich and his girlfriend Dasha Zhukova were hosting what can only referred to as a party-effect event, packed as it was with their close friends such as Marvin out of JLS. Elsewhere, however, was the main draw – Dame Beyoncé Knowles, performing a one-hour set of songs for revellers at the exclusive Nikki Beach club, for a reported fee of $2m. Tab picked up by Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's son Hannibal.

A radio DJ has lost his job after stopping the Queen's Christmas message, telling listeners it was boring.
Birmingham-based BRMB presenter Tom Binns cut short the speech during his live show on Christmas Day, saying: "Two words: Bor-ing". The show was broadcast on BRMB, Wyvern in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, Mercia, in Warwickshire, and Beacon Radio in the Black Country.
Mr Binns, who is also a stand-up comedian, said it had just been a joke.
The stations' owner Orion Media said a number of listeners had complained.
Mr Binns, who has previously been on BBC Radio 2 under the guise of spoof hospital DJ Ivan Brackenbury, said he had received a death threat following what he did.
'Knee-jerk reaction'
"They were just jokes," he said.
"We have got to allow some people to be upset without responding with a knee-jerk reaction. We've got to stop pandering to a small minority."
He added: "I knew beforehand I needed to take the speech off the air as I didn't know how long it was.
